Contacts
Canopy → Contacts is your private address book of LinkedIn people who matter to you. Use it for:
- Engagement prompts — Canopy nudges you to engage with a contact (like / comment) when they post something new.
- Personalized variants — generate post variants targeting a specific contact’s interests when you want to grab their attention.
- Outreach handoff — push a contact list to Outpilot Leads to start a campaign.
Contacts are organized into lists (similar concept to lead lists in Outpilot, but lighter-weight).
Creating a list
Contacts → New list:
- Name it (
Customer champions,Investors I want to update). - Save.
Adding contacts
Three ways:
Manual
On a list page → Add contact. Paste a LinkedIn profile URL; Canopy fetches the name + headline.
Bulk via CSV
Upload CSV with at least a linkedinUrl column. Optional:
firstName, lastName, email, notes. Columns are auto-detected.
From your LinkedIn connections
If you’ve connected a LinkedIn account, Contacts → Import from connections lets you pick from your 1st-degree connections to add in bulk.
Contact card
Each contact shows:
- Name + headline + photo.
- Last interaction — most recent like/comment/DM (across both LinkedIn and Banyan-tracked surfaces).
- Activity recency — green (“active this week”), amber (“active this month”), gray (“quiet”).
- Notes — free-text field for your own context (“Met at SaaStr ‘24, interested in X”).
Click any contact for the detail page with full activity history.
Engagement prompts
When a contact posts on LinkedIn, Canopy can nudge you:
- A ”💡 Engagement prompt” appears on the dashboard linking to the fresh post.
- Optional in-app notification.
Configure on Settings → Notifications → Engagement prompts.
Outreach handoff
Contacts → list → Bulk → Send to Outpilot:
- Pick the destination (existing Outpilot lead list, or new list).
- Confirm.
Canopy pushes the contacts to Outpilot as leads. From there you can attach to a campaign — the standard Outpilot flow. See Outpilot Leads.
This is the seam between Canopy (relationship-building, content) and Outpilot (deliberate outreach). Many teams curate their best contacts in Canopy, then promote a subset to outreach when there’s a reason (launch, fundraise, hiring push).
Frequently asked questions
How is Contacts different from Outpilot Leads?
- Contacts — long-term relationships. People you’d remember from a coffee chat. No outreach automation.
- Leads (Outpilot) — short-term outreach targets. People in a campaign sequence you’re running.
A person can be in both if they make sense in both.
Will Canopy send DMs to my contacts automatically?
No — Canopy doesn’t send DMs at all (LinkedIn’s official API doesn’t expose DM sending). For DM-based outreach, use Outpilot.
Can I tag contacts?
Lists are tags — a contact can be in multiple lists. There’s no free-form tag system on top of lists.
